Specialists at the Freeman Hospital in Newcastle say they are confident it will still become the regional centre for children's heart surgery despite a High Court decision which has ruled that the consultation process was unlawful.
The decision had previously recommended the children's heart surgery unit at Leeds should close.
The recommendation prompted a legal challenge from campaigners in Leeds which was launched alongside a separate independent review from a panel - which was ordered by the health secretary.
