County Durham born Colin Cooper set up the charity in memory of his son Finlay who tragically died in a choking incident shortly before his second birthday ten years ago. The Finlay Cooper Fund has since raised money for children's charities.

The men are part of a group of 15 who will begin their 10 day expedition in June. To prepare, they'll use a specialist altitude chamber at Teesside University to experience the altitude of the 4,895 foot African summit which has temperatures ranging from 30 degrees to -15.
