Appeal after Bedlington gravestone damaged

Police are appealing for information after a gravestone was damaged in a cemetery in Bedlington.

The gravestone in the West Lea Cemetery in Netherton Lane was damaged at some point between Thursday 28 February and Wednesday 13 March, and thieves also stole a number of lights that had been left at the grave.

"To carry out damage like this to a gravestone is disgusting and causes a lot of anguish to the victims.

"We are carrying out enquiries into the incident and I'd urge anyone who knows who is responsible to report it to police.

"There is no place in our communities for anyone who thinks behaviour like this is acceptable."

– Bedlington PC Craig Davison

Anyone with any information is being asked to contact police on 101.
