Hoppings cancelled
One of Europe's largest fun fairs has been cancelled after a row over rents for stall holders.
The Hoppings has been a big event in Newcastle's calendar for the last 130 years.
Yesterday the city council and the Freemen of the city, who organise it, said a waterlogged site may force them to postpone it.
But a meeting of the Showmen's Guild voted to call it off completely unless a dispute over pitch terms can be resolved.
