Robbery at Newcastle barber shop

Police are investigating a robbery in Newcastle where three men went into a barber shop and threatened staff.

The robbery happened on the evening of Thursday 21 March at a barber shop on Downend Road in Westerhope, when the men went inside and demanded cash before assaulting two men aged 42 and 19.

The two men suffered minor injuries and were left shaken after the incident.

The three men made off, stealing two barber razors but no cash, and they are thought to have left the area in a car - possibly a Vauxhall Corsa or one of similar size and shape.

Descriptions of the men are as follows:

  • The first man is white
  • About 6 ft tall
  • Of stocky build
  • Aged in his thirties
  • Wearing a dark-coloured baseball cap and Mera Peak-style grey jacket.
  • The second man is white
  • About 6 feet 3 inches tall
  • Of stocky build
  • Wearing a dark baseball cap and waterproof dark jacket

The third man was shorter than the other two.

Anyone with information is asked to contact police on 101 ext 69191, or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.

"We're appealing for any witnesses to this robbery or anyone who saw suspicious activity in the area to contact police as soon as possible.

"Although the two men were not seriously injured they were left shocked and shaken and there's no place for violence such as this in our communities. We're carrying out enquiries to trace the three men involved."
