Three arrested after impersonating police officers

Police have arrested three men in connection with reports of bogus police officers claiming to have warrants to search a number of addresses across the region.

Officers received a report in July 2012 that two men had called at an address in Gateshead claiming to have a warrant to search the house..

Later the same month, another report was received that men had called at an address in Walkerdene, Newcastle, in similar circumstances and in August two men called at an address in Ponteland and told the occupant they wished to search the property for stolen property.

Three men have been arrested on suspicion to commit burglary and impersonating a police officer. The men - two aged 24 and one 22 - have since been released on police bail.
