Gas leak forces evacuation of Northumberland houses

A part of a Northumberland town has had to be evacuated after a gas leak was discovered this morning.

The gas leak was found as police visited a house on Claremont Terrace in Blyth over reports of a possible burglary.

Neighbouring homes were evacuated and some pupils at a nearby school were moved for their safety.

Gas and electricity engineers visited the scene and officers say the area is now safe again.
