Taxi stolen in Newcastle

Four men have been arrested after a taxi was taken during a robbery in Newcastle.

The taxi was stolen shortly before 11 o'clock on the evening of Wednesday 27 March when the driver picked up three men in Hexham Avenue in Walker and drove them towards Fouracres Road in Cowgate.

One of the men then threatened the driver with what is thought to have been a knife, forcing him out of the car, before making off with the white Skoda Octavia.

The taxi then crashed into another car on Ponteland Road around 11:20pm before it was found in Hexham Avenue just before midnight.

Four men - aged 16, 17, 20 and 28 - have been arrested on suspicion of robbery and are currently in police custody.
