Northumbria Police have launched a murder investigation after a woman was found dead in a house in Newcastle.
Police say they were made aware of concerns about the welfare of a woman inside a house in the Gosforth area of Newcastle just after 11am today.
Police attended the address where a 50-year-old woman was found with unexplained injuries. She was declared dead at the scene.
A 49-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of murder and remains in police custody.
