UKIP: "We're the official opposition in South Tyneside"

The UK Independence Party says its popularity is growing in the North East after unveiling three new council members in South Shields.

The former independent councillors were welcomed by the deputy leader of UKIP, Paul Nuttall.

It comes after the party finished second, after Labour, in the town's by-election last month.
