Police appeal for witnesses after crash

A crash involving a car being followed by police will be referred to the Independent Police Complaints Commission.

The crash happened at around 4.22am on Monday when officers were following a car which, for reasons yet to be established, crashed at Barrack Road in the city.

It is believed there were three men aged 37, 26 and 26, in the car. All three were taken to the Royal Victoria Infirmary for treatment where they remain in a stable condition.

The three have been arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving and failing to stop.

Northumbria Police first saw the car in the Gallowgate area and police are keen to speak with a man who spoke with officers in the area prior to the incident.
