British Transport Police (BTP) detectives have released CCTV images of a man they want to speak to after a woman was allegedly touched inappropriately on a train travelling between Newcastle and Berwick.

The incident happened at around 9pm on the 1800 Kings Cross to Edinburgh service on Sunday May 19th.

Detective Inspector Mick Jackson said: “Three men, believed to be under the influence of alcohol, attempted to engage the victim, a 24-year-old woman from London, in conversation in Coach F of the service. Following the unwanted attention, the victim decided to get up to move seats.

"As she reached up to get her belongings from the overhead rack one of the men allegedly touched her in an inappropriate manner.

“The victim challenged the man, described as having a Scottish accent, and then moved carriages. He followed her, and fearing for her safety she alerted train staff. "

Police have launched an appeal for information - anyone who recognises the man, or can assist the investigation in anyway, should call British Transport Police on 0800 40 50 40 or text 61016 quoting log B8/NEA of 13/0613, or call the independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
