Man arrested on suspicion of murder after Hartlepool fire

Police investigating the death of a man following a house fire in Hartlepool have arrested a man on suspicion of his murder.

44-year-old Andrew Simon died after the fire in the early hours of the morning of Tuesday 11th June.

The fire was initially deemed as unexplained, but is now being treated as suspicious.

A 35-year-old man from Hartlepool has been arrested on suspicion of murder and is currently in police custody.

A 40-year-old woman arrested on suspicion of arson with intent to endanger life has been bailed.

Two addresses in Hartlepool have been searched today as part of the police enquiries, one in Rium Terrace and one in Furness Street.

Detectives have renewed their appeal for anyone who has information about the fire to come forward.
