Full Report: Family rescued from North Yorkshire river

The emergency services say a mother and her two young daughters are 'lucky to be alive' after flash floods left them clinging to a tree in the middle of a swollen river.

It happened yesterday at the River Ure in North Yorkshire, about seven miles from Ripon.

The family were eventually hauled to safety by a helicopter winchman - but not until after a 90 minute ordeal.
