Police are appealing for information after an armed robbery in Chester-le-Street.
The incident happened when two security guards were delivering money to a cashpoint opposite a supermarket on North Burns in the town centre at around 2:30pm on Sunday. A man appeared from nearby bushes and assaulted one of the security guards, before fleeing the scene with a large sum of cash.
A member of the public gave chase and was confronted by the offender, and another man and threatened with a firearm.
One of the men is described as being 5ft 5 inches tall, of stocky build and wearing a blue or green coat. The other is described as being 6ft tall and of medium build.
