A court has heard how a man murdered his County Durham girlfriend, dumped her in a hidden grave on moorland and placed flowers on her body in an apparent act of contrition.
50-year-old Adrian Muir then recorded three messages on his phone confessing to killing Pamela Jackson while was contemplating suicide, Newcastle Crown Court was told.
Muir, from Halifax in West Yorkshire, denies murdering his 55-year-old girlfriend. She disappeared from her family home Chester-le-Street in March.
Her body was then found 120 miles away on the moors above Halifax on 27 May.
The investigation into the disappearance of Pamela Jackson in March became one of the biggest in the history in the Durham Police Force.
