Northumbria Police officers want to speak to anyone who saw a silver people carrier leaving the area of Newcastle where a man was attacked with an axe. Detectives said the car was seen leaving Heathfield Crescent carrying the man they believe to be responsible.
The 41-year-old victim is being treated in the Royal Victoria Infirmary in Newcastle for a fractured skull and bleeding to his brain after the attack, which happened shortly before midnight on Saturday. His injuries are serious but are not believed to be life-threatening.
Officers believe he was known to his attacker.
