Police have identified the body found on the coast at Marsden in South Shields as Pauline Whitfield.
The 63-year-old was from the town. Her body was discovered yesterday, September 5.
She had not been seen since last Thursday evening when she failed to return home after going to the Mecca Bingo in the town.
