Police are investigating the death of a woman at a house in South Tyneside.
Officers were called to a home in Church View, Boldon shortly after 11am today where they discovered the body a woman.
An investigation is now being carried out at the scene and police are appealing for help from the public.
A 32-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of murder.
The woman is yet to be named.
"We know that these types of incident cause great concern in our community. We have extra officers in the area carrying out high visibility patrols to reassure people and speak with local people. "If anyone has any concerns or wants to speak to an officer they can do so face to face or by ringing the local neighbourhood policing team on 101 ext 69191."
"We want to hear from anyone who was in the area of Church View, Boldon between Thursday, September 12 and Friday, September 13, who may have seen or heard anything suspicious, or out of the ordinary. "Even if they're not sure if their information will be useful, please come forward as detectives want to piece together what has happened here and this means speaking to people who have been in the area. "Officers believe those involved were known to each other."
