Police have confirmed that a murder investigation has started, following the discovery of a body in woodland in the Darlington area.
Police searching for missing man Alan Youngson found the body after being alerted by a concerned member of the public.
The body, which was buried. was found in the Branksome area of the town in a wooded area at the end of Jedburgh Drive towards the A1 motorway. No formal identification has been made at this stage. Alan Youngson has been missing from his home in the Darlington area since August 15th.
The investigation is in its very early stages, with our current key line of enquiry to formally identifythis man. Alan Youngson remains amissing person and work is on-going to establish his whereabouts. The area where the man was found remainscordoned off to allow for a full forensic examination and CID officers will becarrying out house to house enquiries in the Branksome area near to where thebody was found.”
Mr Youngson’s family are beingkept fully up to date of developments and are being supported by officers. Although investigations are in their early stagesI would like to reassure the community of Darlington that a dedicated team ofofficers are working hard on this investigation to ensure those responsible forthis man’s death are brought to justice”
