A man has pleaded guilty to the manslaughter of Sybil Sibthorpe from Darlington.
Lee Grainger, 41, of St George's Hall, Elmfield, Darlington, had denied murdering the 80-year-old grandmother, who was found with head injuries in the garden of a property in Haughton Road, Darlington, in May.
He pleaded guilty to manslaughter on the grounds of diminished responsibility at Teesside Crown Court.
