Fire crews are tackling a large fire in Stanley, County Durham, on Monday afternoon.
The blaze is believed to have begun in a take-away shop on Front Street.
Smoke could be seen for miles around.
At 1.30pm Durham and Darlington Fire and Rescue crews said the building was "well alight".
At 3.30pm two roads - Church Bank and Station Road - were closed. A spokesman for Durham Police says more roads could yet be shut.
