Police have thanked emergency services who helped recover a body discovered in the River Wear. Officers were called to the area between Prebends Bridge and Framwellgate Bridge in Durham City.
No formal identification has taken place, however the family of missing Durham University student Sope Peters were informed of the development. There are no suspicious circumstances.
“I would like to express my thanks to colleagues in the other emergency services who helped in the operation yesterday. "Throughout the time Sope has been missing, we have also had tremendous support from other agencies in the searches carried out both in the water and along the riverbank, and his fellow students covered the city with posters appealing for information.”
