A man and a woman from Tyneside have been charged over tweets sent to a feminist campaigner and an MP.
Isabella Sorley, 23, from Newcastle and John Nimmo, 25, from South Shields, have been charged with improper use of a communications network.
One of the alleged targets was Caroline Criado-Perez, who said she faced abuse after successfully campaigning for the author Jane Austen to appear on UK banknotes.
MP Stella Creasy also allegedly received offensive tweets.
They will appear before Westminster magistrates on January 7, the Crown Prosecution Service said.
