A sailor has been arrested on suspicion of being too drunk to pilot a boat after a fishing vessel crashed into a pier.
The Grenaa Star hit South Tyne Pier at 6.30am on Tuesday before beaching on Littlehaven Beach, South Shields.
The 46-tonne boat, which suffered damaged to her bow and began taking on water.
She remains where she beached on Tuesday.
A spokesman for Northumbria Police said a 53-year-old man has since been arrested by police on suspicion of being a "master, pilot or seaman unfit through drink.
"The man has been bailed till a later date.
