A woman had to be cut free from her car after it fell 60 feet over a cliff, crashed through railings and fell a further 20 feet onto rocks by the sea. The vehicle ended up on its roof as the tide came in.
The car came off Blyth Road, Whitley Bay, which is the road leading to St Mary's Island, at 00:45 on 2nd January. The driver was taken to hospital but her injuries are not believed to be life threatening.
