Police appeal after unprovoked assault


York CID are appealing for information after a man’s leg was broken during an unprovoked assault in the early hours of Friday (31 January).

The victim was attacked by two or three men at the junction of Howe Hill Close and Sowerby Road in the city.

The men assaulted the 22-year-old victim with a metal pole and a hammer, leaving him with a bruising all over his body and an open wound where his leg was broken.

The victim was taken to York District Hospital where he is receiving treatment for his injuries.

“This was an unprovoked and violent assault which has left the victim with serious injuries.

"It’s vital that we find out who is responsible and I am appealing to anyone who witnessed the incident or has any information which could help the investigation to call the police without delay."
