Two men risk lives in stormy seas rescuing walker to jumped in to save his dog

Two young men jumped into stormy seas to rescue a dog-walker, who had apparently jumped in to save his dog.

Lewis Fortune was fishing on the Hartlepool Headland, when he saw the dog in the water. He ran hundreds of metres to fetch a life ring, but then realised the dog's owner was also in the water.

Lewis and another man both jumped in and dragged out the man and his dog.

It is thought the dog-walker, a man aged 55, had seen his dog washed away and jumped in after to try to save it. He may have been in the sea for as long as 15 minutes when he was rescued.
