Two years since steelmaking returned to Teesside

It is two years ago this week that the blast furnace at Redcar was relit, bringing steel back to Teesside. The plant had been mothballed in 2010, with the loss of hundreds of jobs, but was bought and reopened by the Thai firm SSI.

Two years on, Redcar blast furnace still not in profit

The reopening of the steel plant at Redcar two years ago brought hundreds of jobs back to Teesside.

However its owners SSI say the world market is tough and the site is still operating at a loss.
