It is two years ago this week that the blast furnace at Redcar was relit, bringing steel back to Teesside. The plant had been mothballed in 2010, with the loss of hundreds of jobs, but was bought and reopened by the Thai firm SSI.

It is exactly two years since steelmaking returned to Teesside. The blast furnace at Redcar had been mothballed under previous owners in 2012, but it was bought by the Thai firm SSI and on this day in 2012, it was relit.
