An 18-year-old Russian student has pleaded guilty to the manufacturing of an explosive substance after chemicals were discovered at a Newcastle University student accommodation campus in June 2014.

Man, 18, arrested over "suspicious items" in Newcastle

Police have evacuated INTO university building at the Haymarket in Newcastle city centre and said they are in the very early stages of an investigation into reports of potentially suspicious items.

An 18-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the incident and is currently helping police with their enquiries.

Northumbria Police stress there is no cause for concern.
