Spectators cheered as British cyclist Mark Cavendish slowly crossed the finish line in obvious pain after a collision knocked him from his bike in the closing stages of day one in Harrogate.

Mark Cavendish's hopes for the Tour de France are over after a dramatic fall close to the finish line. His team confirmed he's pulled out with a shoulder injury. Marcel Kittel went on to win the first yellow jersey in Harrogate.
