Mark Cavendish's hopes for the Tour de France are over after a dramatic fall close to the finish line. His team confirmed he's pulled out with a shoulder injury. Marcel Kittel went on to win the first yellow jersey in Harrogate.

British hopeful Mark Cavendish took a painful fall in a dramatic collision in the final sprint to the finish line of the first stage of the Tour de France in Harrogate.

Cavendish was left on the ground clutching his shoulder and writhing in pain, as German Marcel Kittel won the 190.5km opening stage.
