Metro services have resumed between South Gosforth and Shiremoor following a 34 day closure while a £20m programme of modernisation work was carried out.

A road improvement scheme by Newcastle City Council, which will see Killingworth Road widened towards the Haddricks Mill roundabouts is still ongoing.

It'll be closed until Spring 2018.

“I am pleased to confirm that the Metro line between South Gosforth and Shiremoor is back open to Metro services on the target date that we set.

“We have packed an enormous amount of work into the last 34 days, replacing six kilometres of track and installing an entirely new Metro bridge at Killingworth Road.

“This has been the most intensive summer of investment in Metro’s history. The work will ensure we have a Metro system for many decades to come.
