The Sheffield United and Wales striker Ched Evans has been jailed for five years after being found guilty of raping a 19-year-old woman who was "too drunk to consent" to sex. Port Vale defender Clayton McDonald was cleared of the same charge.

Ched Evans to appeal over rape conviction

Lawyers for Sheffield United and Wales footballer Ched Evans say he will appeal against his conviction for raping a 19-year-old woman in a hotel room. In a statement posted on the Yorkshire club's website, law said he "maintains his innocence".

Evans was jailed after being found guilty of raping the woman at a hotel in North Wales last May.
