High street firms urged to help ex-offenders get jobs

Justice Secretary Ken Clarke said big name companies should consider hiring prisoners and help get more ex-offenders into work. Up to 40 companies are due to attend a Downing Street meeting later this month, to hear Mr Clarke outline the plans.

High Street firms are being urged to hire prisoners to help rehabilitate them. Justice Secretary Ken Clarke says prisons should be about reform as well as punishment. He wants more skills workshops introduced across the prison system, run by household names such as Virgin and Marks and Spencer.
