Metal thefts 'costing £1m a week'
Insurers are paying out more than £1 million a week to the victims of metal theft, the industry's association said today.
- There are now 1,000 metal thefts per week.
- The disruption is estimated to cost the economy £770 million a year.
- The Association of British Insurers said that in the past five years 300 tonnes of metal was stolen per week, which is the equivalent of 300 cars.
