A teenage boy remains critically ill in hospital after he was hit with a propeller after falling from a boat.
The youngster was on a rigid inflatable boat (rib) with two other teenagers and a male adult when the incident happened off The Needles landmark on the Isle of Wight yesterday afternoon.
The teenager, whose age is unknown, fell into the water and it is believed he was then hit by the propeller, the coastguard said yesterday.
He was airlifted to Southampton General Hospital on the mainland, where he is being treated for life-threatening injuries.
Another boy aged 14 was also injured by the propeller and he suffered serious but not life-threatening injuries, a coastguard spokeswoman said.
Hampshire and Isle of Wight Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident, which happened at about 4.50pm.
