Team GB's hopes of landing an Olympic medal in football have ended tonight after a penalty-shootout defeat to South Korea.

After a 1-1 draw and a goalless extra time, Daniel Sturridge's missed spot kick proved fatal.

The Team GB men's defeat followed their female counterpart's exit to Canada.

Britain's gold medal success

Great Britain start day ten of the Olympics in third position in the medals table - with 16 golds, 11 silvers and 10 bronze. Only China (61 medals in total) and the United States (60 in total) have accumulated more so far.
