Some of us just had our coldest August night on record. Temperatures fell into single figures for most of the UK – low enough for a touch of ground frost in rural spots this morning.
A couple of places fell below freezing point. Braemar in Aberdeenshire was the coldest place with -2C while Redesdale in Northumberland got down to -1C.
Both were the coldest August nights ever recorded.
Others records included Bainbridge in North Yorkshire which dipped to 1C. Benson in Oxfordshire was as low as 2C and Bradford in West Yorkshire fell to 3C - breaking a record low temperature which had stood since 1908.
Yes. It is still August!
Tomorrow marks the first day of Autumn in weather world. Ironically, it’ll be nowhere near as cold. Temperatures will be back up a few degrees both by day and by night.
