Gove denies GSCE grade pressure

The Education Secretary Michael Gove has denied putting pressure on exam boards to make grading tougher. On Friday the regulator Ofqual said January's GCSE English exams were "graded generously", but the June boundaries were properly set and graded.

Ofqual to consider GCSE options

The idea was put forward for discussion by the wider education community and was not a formal proposal.

It is an idea that has advantages and disadvantages. The main disadvantage is that schools would not have certainty when tracking their students' performance.

We are currently looking at the concerns that have been raised about some units in GCSE English this summer, and this may be one idea that could be revisited as part of that process.
