Afghan police training halted

US Forces in Afghanistan have said they have stopped training new recruits to the Afghan Local Police amid a spike in the number of insider attacks which are damaging trust between Afghans and their allies.

US Forces probe current Afghan Police

US Forces said they will stop training about 1,000 new Afghan Local Police recruits in the short-term while they probe members in the current the 16,000-man NATO-trained force.

We believe this is a necessary step to validate our vetting process and ensure the quality indicative of Afghan Local Police.

An ALP member shot dead two US Special Forces soldiers in August. Other rogue attacks, such as the killing of three Australian soldiers a few days ago, were done by men doning the ALP uniforms.
