MIliband attacks PM on unemployment

Ed Miliband's first question at PMQs is on unemployment figures. He says that although the figures have fallen overall, in the long term they are rising.

David Cameron acknowledges there is a problem but the Government's work programme is helping to tackle that.

Unemployment falls to 2.59m

The number of people unemployed in Britain fell by 7,000 between May and July to 2.59 million people. But youth unemployment has increases by the same figure. The number claiming jobseeker's allowance last month fell by 15,000 to 1.57 million.
