Singer Ed Sheeran was the most pirated music act in the UK in the first half of 2012, according to the BBC.
Statistics seen by the BBC from monitoring service Musicmetric showed that UK users have illegally shared over 40 million singles and albums in the first six months of this year.
The data also showed that Sheeran's album + (Plus) was downloaded on average 55,512 times every month. Hip hop act Rizzle Kicks and Rihanna completed the top three most popular pirated acts in the UK.
Manchester was the piracy capital in the UK, with more downloads per person than any other city in the UK, followed by Nottingham and Southampton.
