BBC to assist police with Savile investigation

The BBC has said it will assist police with investigations into the child abuse claims surrounding the presenter.

We have asked the BBC investigations unit to make direct contact with all the police forces in receipt of allegations and offer to help them investigate these matters and provide full support to any lines of inquiry they wish to pursue.

BBC Director quizzed Savile

A senior member of staff at the BBC has revealed he questioned Savile over rumours of abuse more than 20 years ago. Derek Chinnery, who as Radio 1 controller from 1978 to 1985 was Savile's boss, said he spoke to Savile about the rumours.
