The chief constable of Cleveland Police who used his influence to recruit the daughter of a high-ranking former colleague has been sacked. The Independent Police Complaints Commission has found him guilty of gross misconduct.

Cleveland Police chief constable Sean Price has been sacked after an Independent Police Complaints Commission investigation.

"Sean Price's attempts to mislead the IPCC investigation by lying and putting pressure on a member of staff to lie on his behalf were shameful," IPCC Commissioner Nicholas Long said in a strongly worded statement.
