Cameron: BBC should investigate 'shocking' Savile allegations

The Prime Minister says the BBC should investigate allegations made against former presenter Jimmy Savile.

"Truly shocking things have been said and it's important that the BBC properly investigates them itself," David Cameron told the BBC's Andrew Marr Show.

"Everyone must ask themselves the question: is there new evidence that needs to be looked at?"

BBC Director quizzed Savile

A senior member of staff at the BBC has revealed he questioned Savile over rumours of abuse more than 20 years ago. Derek Chinnery, who as Radio 1 controller from 1978 to 1985 was Savile's boss, said he spoke to Savile about the rumours.
