Man in court on Northern Ireland explosive charge

A suspected terrorist will appear in court today in connection with the discovery of a mortar rocket in north Belfast.

The 21-year-old man was charged with preparing terrorist acts and possessing explosives with intent to endanger life by detectives from the Police Service of Northern Ireland last night.

More than 30 houses were evacuated on Thursday after officers found the missile at the rear of a property in Jamaica Street, Ardoyne.

Police were carrying out searches under warrant when they discovered the bomb.
