Republican Mitt Romney has erased Barack Obama's advantage in the presidential race and the two candidates are now tied among likely voters, according to a new Reuters/Ipsos poll released today.

US presidential election receives jolt after polls boost for Romney

There was a new urgency to campaigning today by President Obama and his rival Mitt Romney, and not just because the big day is exactly four weeks away.

The latest opinion polls have put Mr Romney in the lead - after his strong performance in last week's TV debate.
