EU receives Nobel Peace Prize

The European Union has received the Nobel Peace Prize in honour of its peace-keeping since World War Two at a ceremony in Norway. David Cameron was not be among the European leaders who attended the ceremony.

Prize 'recognises EU's historic role in promoting peace'

The Foreign and Commonwealth Office said the Nobel Peace Prize awarded to the European Union was a recognition of its historic role in promoting peace and reconciliation:

This award recognises the EU’s historic role in promoting peace and reconciliation in Europe, particularly through its enlargement to Central and Eastern Europe. The EU must always strive to preserve and strengthen those achievements for the future.
